Vijay Diwas -1971 Indo-Pak War for Liberation of Bangladesh (December)
The India – Pakistan war of 1971 came to be known as a landmark in the history of warfare. In one of the shortest and most decisive wars in the world, the Indian Army brought a formidable Pakistani army to its knees, took 93,000 prisoners and helped liberate 75 million people with the birth of a new nation – Bangladesh.
Every year since 2019, Major Akshay Girish Memorial Trust has commemorated India’s 1971 War Victory as its annual event in Bengaluru. The event showcases Operations from the Indo-Pak War for liberation of Bangladesh through narratives by veterans. Soldier heroes are felicitated at the event which also brings to people stories of heroic soldiers who braved bullets and bombs for India in other Wars and Operations and pays tributes to Bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice protecting our nation. It has been an honour for MAGMT to have not only felicitated gallantry awardees, war wounded disabled soldiers and
war veterans from Army, Navy and Air Force but also to have had former Army Chief and distinguished senior veterans from all three services as Chief Guest and Guests of Honour.

Kargil Vijay Diwas – 1999 Operations Vijay and Safed Sagar (July)
The Line of Control between India and Pakistan stretches across high mountainous peaks and valleys. and a national highway connecting Srinagar to Leh cuts through Kargil. Because of the extreme winter weather in high altitudes, Indian and Pakistan Army used to abandon forward posts each year, reoccupying them in the spring. But in the year 1999, the Pakistan Army used deceit and reoccupied the forward posts early, well within Indian Territory. It was a tip-off by a patriotic shepherd in the Batalik sector which led to the exposure of the infiltration.
On 26 th May 1999, the Indian Army launched Operation Vijay to evict the enemy from our heights. The war along 160 kms, on the highest battlefield in the world, began. The IAF launched Op Safed Sagar to support the Indian Army but the IAF was told not to cross the LoC and escalate the scale of the war. It was love for country above all else that made our brave young soldiers led by very able commanding officers succeed in doing the impossible. The enemy was pushed back from peak after peak and ridge after ridge by courage, valour and sacrifice. Indian victory is commemorated on 26 th July each year as Kargil Vijay Diwas and MAGMT takes great pride in organizing this event in collaboration with
educational institutions.
